#TBT: 7 Middle School Turn-Up Jams You Need to Relive

- Talia Chavez

October 8, 2015

I don’t know about you guys, but back in the glorious days of the early 2000s, there were several songs that changed my life. I present to you seven songs that will remind you of how great those days of Juicy Corture sweats, denim dresses, and frosted tips really were. 7.  “Here (In Your Arms)” – Hellogoodbye You know that song that made you think about that cute boy that you had a crush on since, like, the 6th grade? This was that song. The music video is oddly reminiscent of Wet Hot American Summer, but it’s fun to watch if you’re into seeing a bunch of dudes run around in jorts. But hey, I’m sure you’ve had this song stuck in your head at some point, right? “Me and U” – Cassie I don’t care what you say, this song is the classic early 2000s song. The music video is also pretty standard, featuring the use of a Nokia phone (omg, remember those?) and the classic “cool girl dancing in front of the mirror and being an overall boss” aesthetic. Sooo 2006. “Seventeen Forever” – Metro Station I distinctly remember seeing Metro Station at Six Flags during their concert series in the 7th grade. It was great. The music video is also filled with a bunch of cameos, with some people I’m sure you’ll recognize. (Hint hint, Miley, what’s good??) “Freek-a-leek” – Petey Pablo This song came out in 2004, but obviously it was way ahead of its time. A work of art. “L.O.V.E.”  - Ashlee Simpson Ah yes, the Simpson sisters. Although Jessica Simpson seems to have stayed more in the public eye than then her sister, I always genuinely enjoyed Ashlee’s music more. I like the beginning of this music video because it features a great intro that includes an annoyed Ashlee Simpson tossing her flip phone in the toilet. I like that that’s the most logical reaction in a lot of music videos released in the early 2000s. No one’s texted me all day? Oh well. *toss*                 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “Say OK”- Vanessa Hudgens First and foremost, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron were like, the original relationship goal.  This whole video is pretty much a dedication to their relationship, and it brought back major feels when I watched it again. Zanessa for life~. “Rock Your Hips”- Crime Mob Crime Mob is like that missing sock you find after you’ve been looking for it for the past week. I forgot how good this song was until I saw the music video and experienced a brief middle school dance flashback. The music video is great, the song is great - it just bumps. - Talia Chavez
