ABOUT KANM

For over fifty years, KANM (KAGZ-LP 106.7 FM) has been the student voice of Texas A&M University broadcasting the sounds, ideas, and chaos that make Aggieland what it is. We're a completely student-run station built around one simple idea: people should play what they love.

Our DJs make their own playlists, talk about what matters to them, and bring every kind of music you can imagine to the airwaves, from punk to house to ambient noise experiments recorded in a dorm room. Every show is unique, because every host is.

KANM is a community of writers, artists, engineers, and music nerds who keep the culture alive. Members write for our Frequency blog, collaborate on our Oscillations zine, record live sessions, and help run events that support local music across the Bryan–College Station metro.

Looking back at our humble beginnings in 1973 and comparing it to where we stand today, we almost have a hard time believing that we're the same organization! But behind all the visible changes over decades of technology evolving (and challenges evolving endlessly right alongside it), the heart of KANM was never lost. If you've ever wanted to be a part of something that fights to honor the “Student” in Student Radio, tune in or join us - you'll fit right in!

OUR MISSION

Officially, KANM exists to provide quality radio programming to the students of Texas A&M University (TAMU) and the members of the College Station/Bryan community. KANM strives to avoid programming that duplicates programming from locally available media.

Practically? KANM exists to give students the freedom to create. We believe college radio should be local and human. No algorithms. No corporate playlists. Just people sharing what they care about.

MUSIC

Every track that airs on KANM is hand-picked by a real person. We host Music Review Crew meetings, a place where members bring albums to the table, rave about them, argue about them, vote on what they think deserves airplay, and celebrate the results. As a student-run station, we greatly value the input of students: listeners get to hear what they love to hear and DJs get to play what they love to play! Music directors and members meet regularly to review submissions and contribute new records to our ever-growing collection.

We dedicate ourselves to keeping our music rotation fresh, encouraging both listeners and DJs alike to listen to new things, spotlighting underrepresented artist and genres, and supporting the local music scene. Please submit music for airplay by emailing md@kanm.org.

Over the years, we have also built up an expansive CD library within our station, and we encourage members to explore its contents. In addition to delivering music through the propietary radio automation platform we built, DJs are welcome to play vinyl records and CDs on air during their shows, extending appreciation for both digital and physical media!

LIVE EVENTS & MEDIA

KANM has a long history of supporting live music in Bryan–College Station. Our biannual Save the Music fundraising concerts feature emerging artists from across Texas, and our KANM Live Sessions bring local bands right into our studio for intimate performances.

We also publish reviews, interviews, and show coverage from across the state. Our writers are right there to capture what's real and what's next.

Artists interested in performing a live session can get in touch here.
