Staff Spotlight: Paige Musselman, Members Affairs Director
by Gwen Howerton
What was the first band or artist that solidified your love of music?
My first favorite artist was Taylor Swift when I was 10. Speak Now had just come out, and I loved the pop-rock-country sound on that album. My pre pubescent self thought her lyrics were Just Amazing and finding out she wrote all her own songs on that album was the real catalyst of my love for singer songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Fiona Apple.
How did you first hear about KANM, and what made you want to join?
My high school friend Reece Walter first told me about KANM the summer before my freshman year. She is a DJ at KVRX, our sister station at UT Austin and I thought it was so cool that she had a radio show. Reece also knew Lillie, our music director, and told me to join KANM because she knew I liked music and thought Lillie and I would be friends!
What is your favorite memory from your time in KANM?
I’m not sure if I have a specific favorite memory. Some things that come to mind is meeting new members for the first time after COVID lockdowns in Fall 2021 at the returning member Spider-Man 2 social, as well as the Lake Bryan Social in 2019. It was the first KANM social I think I attended, and we played a game where we had to tell embarrassing stories about ourselves, and I kind of connected with some of our now officers for the first time and heard some really funny stories about them.
Do you have a show? If so, what’s your favorite part about doing a show?
My show is called My Little Corner of the World and is on Thursdays at 1pm. I love going into the station between classes and just getting to play some of my favorites and jam out.
Who are your favorite artists right now?
Some albums I’ve been listening to recently are Tender Buttons by Broadcast, Beyond the Fleeting Gales by Crying, Something by Chairlift, and Laurel Hell, the new Mitski album.
What other extracurriculars are you involved in here at A&M?
KANM is the only org that I’m in. I also spend time every week volunteering at St. Joseph’s hospital here in College Station.
What’s your major, and what are your plans for after graduation?
I’m a Nutrition major, and my plans after graduation are to match to a dietetic internship program, get my masters, and become a dietitian.
