Green Day Brings Their Revolution Radio Tour to Houston
On Sunday March the 5th, I was able to finally see Green Day live. I’ve been waiting for it since October. They did a small tour in September hitting some clubs but there were no Texas dates, but luckily the spring tour (and summer tour) had Texas on it so I was able to get a ticket for the Houston’s show. Opening up was Against Me! Who were pretty damn great but did not get a huge pop as I expected. They rocked the arena for around thirty minutes. Green Day are known for playing long sets, and they did not disappoint with that since they started the show at around 8 PM. The setlist was a perfect mix of old material, new material, and stuff from their newest album, Revolution Radio. There was only one song off the 21st Century Breakdown tour and none from the trilogy, so that was a surprise. Plenty of Dookie stuff too and of course, lots of songs off American Idiot, including Jesus of Suburbia which was not played at many shows during the first leg off the 21st Century Breakdown World Tour back in 2009. Green Day rocked the house for 2 and a half hours. It was insane. Lots and lots of crowd participation that including pulling up people on-stage and a bunch of sing-alongs. They also started the show with some heavy hitters like Know Your Enemy and Holiday, and kept on delivering. The last album had a good reception by the fans so they played 6 songs off it, and Still Breathing had a pretty good pop at the end of the regular set. There were two encores, the first one with American Idiot+Jesus of Suburbia and the second one with Ordinary World+Good Riddance, which was a perfect way to end the evening. This was easily one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Green Day will be coming back to Texas in the fall. They will be in Austin and San Antonio after switching dates due to their SA show clashing with Guns N' Roses'. (I’ve got tickets for both GD and GNR so I’ll review those shows next semester.) I HIGHLY recommend you hit San Antonio the first weekend of September so you can see both Guns N’ Roses and Green Day. I’ve seen GNR 3 times during their current tour and they absolutely killed the house. It was an incredible show, and to see Green Day the very next day will be even better. Tickets are still available for both shows. Written by: Jorge Ramos Photo Courtesy of Jorge Ramos
