Week in Review: Oh Wonder Debuts Big

- Phillip Dupree
October 1, 2015

The self-titled debut album by the London-based duo Oh Wonder dropped earlier this month, and it is enticingly beautiful. A reminiscing vibe of melancholy and cheerfulness exists in each song, along with a brightening melody included in each. This album just may be the quintessential “chill-out” playlist not only for its mellow-energetic vibes, but also the sweet bliss harmony that lingers long after you listen to it. The duo is currently on tour right now, and for good reason. Many are already starting to pick up on what is destined to be the next big thing in indie electronica. Take, for instance, the song “Lose it”. A lulling piano draws you in, synths keep you in the relaxed mood, and a jazzy pop underlay shows you just how harmonically talented this group is. This track encompasses the full potential that this group delivers upon. The mixture of instruments and dynamics laden in this album is unmatched by any other in the genre. Oh Wonder struck gold here by finding the perfect combination of soft lyrics, unique beats, and an awe-inspiring vibe to create their unforgettable and unique sound. A different tonal message is hidden in each song, but they all come together to tell the story Oh Wonder is dying to tell. Take a listen to Oh Wonder and hear the beautifully crafted tracks that will linger in your mind. - Phillip Dupree
