REVIEW: Tems' - If Orange Was a Place EP
By Sophie Villareal
When it comes to the recent release of Tems’ EP If Orange Was a Place, it can be described as the ultimate vibing music for any student. The Nigerian star has released an EP previous to that has the same lasting impact on its listeners: love, tranquility, and an emotional tether for times when music can describe the way you feel more than words. While Tems is on track with this album to wow a lot of individuals in the US, the artist has been making waves in the Nigerian music scene for a hot minute.
The five-song album is the perfect sample for fans to listen to while they prepare for a larger release by the new, hot, and upcoming artist. Tems was also featured on Drake’s “Fountains” song off his Certified Lover Boy chart-topper: this album could not have come out at a better time for Tems. Tems’ New EP was most definitely worth the wait.
The uptempo nature of the music reminds me of Khalid’s first album mixed with SZA; makes for quite the attractive song makeup. At times listening to the songs, lyrics feel transparent and psychedelic: like you’re immersed within a conversation between you and the artist themselves recalling a memory of what once was. My favorite song on the album is undoubtedly “Replay”; the afrobeats create this truly incredible experience when listening to her music. When listening to her recent album, listen to it in any order you wish. The EP creates a freeing feeling that mainstream music has been lacking lately. If Orange Was a Place is up high on my list; Tems is on the rise, listen to her roar.
